Hi, I’m Liz Williams I’m a nuclear physicist, podcaster, associate professor and interim director of the ANU Nuclear Stewardship Network. I spent 15 years working in fundamental and applied nuclear science at Yale, CSIRO, and the Australian National University and then transitioned into research and education on artificial intelligence, cyber-physical systems, and the interaction between humans and technologies in safety-critical systems in the ANU College of Systems and Society. More recently, I have joined the ANU School of Engineering to lead our newly created nuclear systems discipline.
I have an interest in how to support safety and trust at scale when designing technologies for safety-critical contexts and applications. My work is deliberately multi-disciplinary, uses a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods, and aims to connect theory to practice in ways that are likely to be useful in real-world R&D contexts. For more on my research, browse my Google scholar profile.
I also have a University Diploma in International Nuclear Law from the University of Montpellier (completed via the International School of Nuclear Law, run by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency), and have an interest in governance and regulation.
Finally, I am a keen science communicator. I currently host and produce Nuclear Matters for the ANU College of Systems and Society.

If you’d like to work with me, visit my institutional research profile and send me a message.
